Report on barrier models for frontal impact - Deliverable Report D713B
September 2006, Confidential Deliverable
An overview was requested from all available numerical models of
deformable barriers used for frontal vehicle assessment. The following report summarizes activities of
various partners contributions towards identifying the state of the art in frontal barrier models and
reporting of simulation results in a range of configurations. A number of these barrier models are
developed inside the APROSYS project whilst this report also summarizes the existing barrier models
within the RADIOSS, MADYMO™, LS_DYNA and PAMCRASH Codes. Test data is reported from
physical barrier tests in addition to improvements to barrier models.
The state of the art of deformable barriers highlighted show that models already have potential to
simulate complex phenomena when barriers interact with other structures. Further testing work is
perhaps needed to feed accurate real world properties into the models and to continually improve
them.
