State of the art FE Head model and injury mechanisms
May 2006, Confidential Deliverable
An evaluation of seven numerical head models was also completed. The models evaluated in this work were based on the willingness of each model developer to participate in the model evaluation. Several evaluations of the models were performed addressing:
1. The characteristics and structure of the models 2. The accuracy of the models to predict head measures from published Post Mortem Human Surrogate (PMHS) impact tests 3. variations in the models’ predictions
The objectives of the evaluations was to assess a number of the leading published head models and gather data on which to base the selection of a model on which to develop model based head injury criteria in later stages of work in SP5.1.1. The evaluations concentrated on the current setup of the models and made no attempt to speculate on the performance of the model by making specific alterations and optimisations to the setup or structure of the models.
