Report on accident scenario’s for motorcycle-motorcyclist-infrastructure interaction. State-of-the-art in order to identify and assess road infrastructure main features. Future research guidelines. - Deliverable Report 413
March 2006, Public Deliverable
Four in-depth accident databases were analysed focusing on infrastructure involvement. The amount of data availbale for this analysis was rather small. No causation issues could be revealed with this data. Roadside barrier impacts occurred under small angles at high speeds, and more often in upright position than sliding on the ground. These impacts mostly cause injuries to the head and thr lower extremities. There are indications of trees and poles being even more hazardous on PTW riders when being hit.
