Methodology to Address Non Struck Side Injuries - Deliverable Report D115A.
June 2007, Public document.

Sub-project 1 (SP1), titled ‘Car Accidents’, is investigating the development and validation of evaluation methods and advanced protection systems. Within this SP part of WP1.1 ‘‘Advanced side impact and side impact compatibility’ has investigated injuries to the occupant seated on the non-struck side in side impact collisions. Approximately 50% of all car accident casualties are involved in a side impact. One third are seated on the non-struck side. Task 115 investigated the non-struck side problem by identifying the magnitude of the problem, drafting a test-procedure and demonstrating possible countermeasures. As the first phase of rollover show a certain similarities to side impacts, correlations in occupant kinematics, injury mechanisms and accelerations were highlighted and discussed.
