About SP3: pedestrians/cyclists accidents
This project paves the way for the introduction of new protection systems to protect pedestrians and pedal cyclists in all relevant crashes involving passenger cars, MPVs and SUV's. The focus is on the priority vulnerable road user groups of children and elderly.

Specific research objectives are:

  • Development, construction, and evaluation of enhanced and new test methods for vehicle front ends to assess pedestrian and pedal cyclist safety
  • Development, construction, and evaluation of the vehicle based pedestrian and pedal cyclist safety technologies.
  • Development of material models for laminated materials that can fracture yet still retain a level of rigidity and reduced integrity.

The sub project is organized in 4 work areas, dealing with real world accident data analysis, computer modeling of scenarios and components and system development and testing.

The partners include 3 OEM's, 5 suppliers, 5 research institutes and 3 universities. The Sub Project is headed by Roger Hardy from Cranfield Impact Centre Limited (CIC) in the United Kingdom.
