About SP1: car accidents

This part of the Integrated Project aims to reduce the risk at severe and minor injuries for car occupants in frontal and side crashes by improving the crashworthiness of passenger cars.

Specific research objectives are:

  • Development of (harmonized) test and evaluation methods that will guide safety design and improve car occupant safety.
  • Development and demonstration of advanced safety technologies for the improvement of car occupant safety.

The sub project is organized in 3 work areas focusing on side crashes, frontal crashes and advanced safety systems development.

The partners include 3 OEM's, 3 suppliers, 6 research institutes and 2 universities. The Sub Project is headed by Mervyn Edwards from TRL Limited in the United Kingdom.
